Why this petition matters

Started by Dee Dore

On Aug. 23rd around 7am, Southfield Fire Dept and Paramedics were called to her home after her family discovered her having pale lips and experiencing trouble breathing. Paramedics claim that she was not breathing when they arrived. They delivered life saving measures for 30 minutes. A local ER nurse took the reporting from the workers and declared her deceased.

Her god mother, a nurse, claimed that Timesha was moving and that she detected a faint pulse after the declaration but crews dismissed her concern and told her it was due to the medicine administered during their attempts at resuscitation. They then called James H. Coles Funeral Home and they performed the pick up.

Around 11am, Coles contacted the family in hysterics letting them know that when the embalmer unzipped the bag, they saw Timesha staring at them while breathing. She had been left in the bag for over three hours.

She has been diagnosed with cerebal palsy since birth. She is now on a ventilator and her condition is 'touch and go." Several agencies as well as the city of Southfield are conducting investigations into the matter.

This is a call for accountability for all the people involved actions. Black women are more likely to have their medical needs ignored than those of White women. And if they're disabled, the implicit biases are even greater. Timesha's life matters. What happened to her is absolutley maddening, sickening and unacceptable. I demand that all parties involved with the declaration of her death as well as ignoring the concerns of her god mother, be fired and charged accordingly. I demand that her family as well as Timesha will receive payment for this traumatizing ordeal. I demand that the city as well as all parties involved will apologize to her family as well as pay any form of medical expenses that accumulate due to their negligence.

Black disabled lives matter.

Timesha's precious life matters.
