We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Purnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I would have to say the thought process behind starting my business was discovering I had more to offer than my trade allowed; and this is what pushed me to want more. Though I’d truly enjoyed my 9-5 in Social Services oftentimes I found myself being called on, inquiring my insight regarding various things that sharpened my experience. I mean seriously, you name it I’ve likely received a call inquiring about it. Not long after I begin to think ‘hey people must really value what I have to say”. This prompted me to believe if the people calling/inquiring found value in my insight just imagine what I could bring to others that don’t have my contact info. Thereafter I began my podcast by discussing from my own experience as a parent bullying in schools and I here I am three years in and not one time have I looked back.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Tiff’ Talks (Podcast) apart is we take community outreach to another level by discussing taboos topics in a safe space filled with education and insight. The ‘Talk Topics’ are oftentimes things people are discussing at the beauty/barbershop, happy hour and even amongst co workers in the breakroom that impact minority communities. As these topics are those that warrant more attention beyond these small spaces it is my mission to bring about awareness to these taboos. Some of Tiff’ Talks top rated episodes have been discussions about breaking generational curses, self love, conflict resolution and minority mental health.

Byproducts of Tiff’ Talks I am most proud of are: 1) Tiff’ Talks Annual Visionary Party, an interactive vision board party that gathers likely minded people in guided discussions and activities while assisting attendees with canvassing their vision for the upcoming year 2)Tiff’ Talks Minority Mental Health Month Symposium, a loaded discussion regarding minority mental health topics amongst a panel of skilled healthcare workers, money marketing/finance experts, clergy, and chemical dependency professionals and 3) Tiff’ Talks Women in POWER, the very first editorial published by Tiff’ Talks profiling female entrepreneurs blooming in entrepreneurship and business in the Houston and surrounding areas.

Entrepreneurship is not at all easy, but I will proudly say- on any given day it is worth it. I did not get to where I am by chance but by hard work, determination and consistency. There have been many challenges to overcome but the best thing I’ve put forth is effort and that is the exert power that has leveraged my dreams and driven my goals. What I’ve learned is the power of making room for the things I want out of life and as far as Tiff’ Talks is related that is a thriving business. Thus even in the midst of challenges, shortcomings and lacking I make room to strive for Tiff’ Talks’ success because the impact is much greater – “purpose may get you started but let passion keep you going!” What I’d like the world to know about me is I seek impact. My vision for Tiff’ Talks is to impact generations to seek and achieve wealth beyond any currency exchange -but in measures much greater such as health, wellness and prosperity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am the biggest fan of good food and drinks – thus my itinerary would involve just that (good food and drinks) and a couple of good views. Mondays of course are meant for Midtown Happy Hours and the best ones are ‘The Social Beer Garden’ and ‘The Alley Kat’. There is no better taco than La Calle so hands down that is my Taco Tuesday spot followed by drinks at The Moonshiners Table and Bar. Wing Wednesdays are spent at The Lock Room and there I never pass up a good drink. The Truck Yard is always a good time for any Friday Eve and Fridays I’m good for a dancing good time, drinks and bites at The Address. Saturday Brunch, The Rustic – Post Oak or Union Kitchen is a good place to start following by shopping and people watching. Sunday Fundays are spent bar hopping in City Center.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to My Oval – my circumference of immediate and extended support system that pushes me to dream big, inclusive to my husband and children, parents, my Superwoman Bestfriend, sister Tarsha, peer group and friends turned family. They are the people that encourage and hold me accountable to strive for the best. Even more so I have a heart of gratitude for each and every member of my Tiff’ Talks Community, who entrust me with their most precious gift (TIME) Sundays in and out – for their views, likes, repost and shares I am eternally grateful. And to the person (who shall remain anonymous) who said to me “Tiffany, anything that you feel that you are lacking you are now in a position you too can create”. You will never know what that has done for me.
