Bob Dylan's Scottish Highlands Estate Sells to Whisky Maker

The Scottish Highlands estate is reported to have sold for £4,257,000 to Angus Dundee Distillers.

Bob Dylan co-owned the country estate for 17 years, alongside his brother, and the siblings would stay at Aultmore House for a few weeks a year until pre-Covid times.

Having not been able to use the property in recent years, the Nobel Prize-winning singer-songwriter listed the property with Knight Frank in July asking for offers over £3,000,000.

Aultmore House is nestled in a 25 acres estate, set within Cairngorm National Park in the Scottish Highlands.

Surrounded by mature forest , this region is famed for its bird life, and one of Scotland’s prime fishing rivers, the River Spey, is only 1 mile away.

The "A grade" listed Edwardian house was built between 1911 and 1914, designed by London architect and designer, C.H.B. Quenell in the Edwardian style.

Aultmore House was built as a summer house for Archibald Merrilees, whose father, an Aberdonian, and his partner, Mr Muir had amassed a fortune in trade along the North Sea route to Russia, and later founded the Moscow department store, M&M.

After WWII, the impressive country house served as a convalescent home for the Forces, with the gardeners’ cottages used for evacuees. In the 1970s, it became a finishing school for girls, and by the 1990s it was briefly run as a bed and breakfast, before falling into disrepair.

Aultmore House was restored in the early 2000s and further improved by Bob Dylan and his brother when they purchased the Scottish Highlands estate in 2006.

Offering a total of 23 bedrooms across 3 levels of accommodation, the country house features fine period detailing throughout with intricate plasterwork on the ceilings and arches, original wood floors, and Adam style marble fireplaces in most reception rooms.

There are also three fully renovated cottages on-site.

The Scottish estate offers a charming country lifestyle, located 1.5 miles from the Highland village of Nethy Bridge, with a local pub, butcher's shop, primary school and 9-hole golf course, just 12 miles from shops and restaurants in Aviemore, and 15 miles from the Cairngorm ski area.

Inverness Airport is 41 miles from the estate and offers regular flights to London, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, and other UK and European destinations.
