Since 2008 Amber States have graced main stages, supported legends, and played to handfuls of pissheads. You might have seen them unloading a backline from a rusty blue Volvo into a dive bar. They’ve also been on a world tour of Scotland and England. But you probably know them best for their 2012 cover of ‘Our House’ for a B&Q advert – a jolly song about that time they lived with Joni Mitchell.
Too busy enjoying the rock and roll lifestyle, Amber States forgot to record a full album putting out three EPs and a few singles instead. Thankfully, this oversight has been corrected with the 2024 release of the long-player El Real, their first new music in a decade. This will coincide with the re-release of their old (but timeless) material on streaming services.
Their new music is faithful to their trademark sound, which has developed over the years to become a bittersweet blend of euphoria and melancholia; a magnetic mix of the acoustic and the electric.
Amber States have mixed it with the best over the years, enjoying radio play on BBC 6 Music and Radio X, and sharing the bill with luminaries such as White Denim, The Staves, Lianne La Havas, Alt-J (etc.). But don’t take their word for it…
“Pure talent and musicianship. I am always impressed and in awe” Lianne La Havas
“Already a cult property” Clash Magazine
“A keen knack for crafting a euphoric brand of indie” NME
“Full of folk nuances and brilliant indie-pop” Artrocker
“Blissful and summer-ready” The 405
“Exciting, euphoric indie sounds” The Line Of Best Fit
