Hey there, I’m a writer, reporter, and producer based out of Berlin. By day I make audio stories. By night I dabble in music, fiction, and make a fool of myself trying to roller skate on Tempelhof‘s runways.
My latest project is Dear Poetry – an advice column that turns to poems for guidance. In each episode, a caller sends us their dilemma (big or small), and we invite a poet to listen to whatever it is that’s troubling them, and to read a poem that offers consolation, guidance, or just a good laugh. The podcast features some of my very favorite writers and poets – including Cheryl Strayed, Chen Chen, Camille Dungy, JP Brammer, Pádraig Ó Tuama, and many others – and is out on Audible now. We were featured by NPR’s All Things Considered Weekend Edition and The Guardian as a “Best Podcast of the Week”. Take a listen, and help us make a second season by leaving a review!
I’m a former reporter for The Washington Post, where I covered a wide range of topics – from Germany’s history of colonialism and racism to its climate science and peculiar language. I’ve also reported stories about the rise of Germany’s far-right for Reveal, one of the most surveilled women in the GDR for Snap Judgment, and a Syrian man who – with the help of a dating coach – is looking for love in Berlin for NPR’s Rough Translation. Once, I visited this crazy pink house with grass on its roof for 99 Percent Invisible and made a story about its architect who banished straight lines.
Before landing in Berlin, I could be found roaming the streets of San Francisco, New York and Chicago, making location-based audio walks for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the media start-up Detour.
