JOB DESCRIPTION
Oceanside Museum of Art is looking for TWO enthusiastic individuals to join our museum staff as Visitor Services Associates (VSAs). This entry level position serves as the museum’s main
point of contact for visiting patrons and as a supervisor for scheduled volunteers. This role is perfect for someone who is an outgoing, friendly individual that works well in a team
environment as well as independently with little to no supervision, and has strong creative problem-solving skills. Strong candidates should have the ability to provide visitors with
exceptional customer service and present themselves as an outstanding representative of the museum within the public eye. This position reports to the Visitor Services and Community
Engagement Manager. Knowledge and interest in the arts is encouraged and the ability to thrive in an exciting, fast-paced environment is necessary. We love making the museum a better place

Job Type: Part-time hourly position (18-20 hours, not to exceed 30 hours), requires frequent evenings and weekends
Compensation: $18/hr

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Visitor Services Associate (VSA)
The VSA is an essential member of the Visitor Services team that forms part of the
Operations Department. As a VSA you will be responsible for arming and disarming the
building security system to open and close the museum’s front desk and museum store
as needed. This includes managing both the front desk and museum store registers,
counting the day’s opening and closing balance and reconciling the POS in both the
store and front desk at the end of the day and processing in-person and phone
transactions.
As the main point of contact for patrons and volunteers during hours of operation, the
VSA will work with the Visitor Services Department to be well-versed on daily OMA
onsite and offsite exhibitions, programs, and events. This role is responsible for working
alongside another VSA to fulfill daily onsite responsibilities that include: welcoming
guests, processing ticketing transactions, providing information about OMA and other
OMA-related events and programs, maintain a clean and safe work environment,
supervise and train volunteers to accomplish daily and assigned tasks, answer the main
OMA phone and transfer calls and/or take messages accordingly. Work with museum
staff and volunteers to promote and increase sales for all levels of membership,
programs, events, and museum store merchandise.
As the front-facing representative of the museum, VSAs are essential in providing
support for other departments. Some of these tasks include:
Facilities
Fulfill daily End-of-Day Reports to maintain a clean and safe space. Assure
the safety of visitors, staff, works of art, and museum facilities by following and enforcing
all related safety policies and emergency procedures in daily operations as well as in the
planning and execution of programs and events.
Administration
Maintain tracking sheets of personal work hours, update demographic
information after programs and events, and other administrative tasks as required.
Opportunity for additional hours agreed upon in advance may include:
Special Events and Facility Rentals
Support Operations and Programs Departments to provide a welcoming and engaging
experience for patrons. Occasionally, Manager of Facility Rentals will need assistance with
maintaining the success of a facility rental.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● Must be 18+ years
● Must be able to work nights and weekends.
● Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
● Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment while remaining detail-oriented
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
● Sales experience a plus
● Experience in managing/working/training volunteers a plus
● Knowledge of Blackbaud: Altru POS system highly favorable
● Supervisory experience a plus
