Bridgetown #136

Kevin Greenspon
Mood Recovery

Composed for late nights alone in a crowd, on an unlit highway or lost in one's own mind, Kevin Greenspon blends lush ambient sound design, aquatic dub techno and atmospheric house to sculpt a surreal world vaguely resembling the empty concrete courtyards of our own cities. An exploration into the space between emotions, "Mood Recovery" consists of cascading ribbons of tape hiss wrapped into static while seismic sub frequencies ripple deep under clattering scrapyard rhythms and gritty echoes. Throughout the journey, a contemplative shadow is cast over each moody arrangement, climaxing in a frantic rush to escape the dark.

Editer H
Ciruelo

Lo-fi beat savant Eric Hernandez reinvents himself monthly under dozens of pseudonyms, now taking on his role as Editer H to compose the soundtrack to a twisted real world videogame where each level is a highly personalized hell: It all begins with waking up way too early on your first day off work in weeks, getting cussed at by your mom in Spanish for not calling back home more often, then going outside and finding out your car's been broken into.

But each level can be conquered. You can land that trick on your skateboard that you've been trying for weeks, roll away clean and find a crisp hundred dollar bill in the street. Maybe go buy some weird funk record that doesn't exist yet. Or go to the auto glass repair shop as soon as it opens so there's still a little time to hang out at the park and bask in knowing everything's gonna be okay until work tomorrow.

The Widest Smiling Faces & Marc Merza
Forest Bathing

After returning from a tour across Japan, Marc Merza reunited with The Widest Smiling Faces for a set of wistful guitar arrangements inspired by shinrin-yoku, the local practice of bathing oneself in the aura of a forest to lower stress levels. Each piece bears no title and evokes the feeling of anonymity and insignificance one feels when deeply immersed in a natural environment. Drifting notes are culled from the space between branches, pain and regret are washed away in a stream, uncertainty left behind as footsteps on an unmarked path.
