Colorism has been a term used in the black and brown communities as a form of discrimination between lighter/ darker skin tones. Colorism was introduced into the black community from as far back as slavery. The slave owners discriminated against darker slaves, who were forced to work outside and do hard labor vs the lighter slaves who were chosen to work in the homes. Unfortunately, we still see colorism affecting our black, brown, Hispanic, and other minority groups. Our two special guests, Mya Matos and Prishna Jimenez-Cassan, share their experiences with colorism. Welcome back to Part 2 of The Disconnect Between Men and Women! We were thankful to bring on another special guest, Keith Thomas. We dove deeper into the conversation and enjoyed hearing from Keith’s perspective.

This week we’re discussing the disconnect between men and women. We would be remiss if we chose to discuss this between just us, so we brought in a Special Guest, Daniel Fisher aka Fish to join in to share his perspective.

The year 2020 was a huge eye opener for the Black Community. We were experiencing a pandemic as well as witnessing more of our Black men being killed by the hands of police officers. Our experience as black mothers raising young black men is one we needed to share with our listeners. From being a single mother of black boys to being a mother within a blended family raising five young black men; listen to our experiences raising young black men in today’s society.

We are celebrating ALL women for Women’s History Month. Listen as we highlight, encourage, and pay homage to some Amazing women in our lives. Celebrate those women who have made an impact in your life.

Toot-N-Nell both share their personal experiences in career fields of Information Technology and Environmental Program Management of sometimes being the only black in their areas of work. They also discuss disparities such as tokenism, microaggression, and discrimination in the workplace.
