The Diana Koh Social Transformation Programme for NPO Internships financially supports Singapore Management University (SMU) undergraduates who successfully receive an internship offer from an approved non-profit organisation (NPO) that focuses on transforming the lives of people. The NPO focus areas for 2024 are:

  1. Women, Children & Family
  2. Youth
  3. Elderly
  4. People with Disabilities
  5. Foreign Domestic/ Migrant Workers
  6. Mental Health
  7. Food Security
  8. Equitable & Accessible Education
  9. Equitable & Accessible Healthcare
  10. Employability, Social & Financial Resilience

Students should apply for this Programme if they are committed to gain exposure in the NPO/NGO sector (local or overseas) by contributing their skills and acquiring new ones during the internship. SMU students will be automatically awarded the full stipend if the internship is offered through the Programme’s listed positions on OnTrac. 

If you are a student with SOA, SOL or SCIS –This internship will not qualify to meet your mandatory internship requirement. Thus apply only if you have already fulfilled, or intend to use other internship to fulfill the mandatory internship requirement under your respective degree. This internship is not open to Year 1 students from CIS, SOA, SOL and SCIS. Local Internship

Students should also note the following prior to submitting your application for the programme:

  • Applicants must be matriculated SMU undergraduates during the internship, and the programme is opened to Y1 – Y4* Undergraduate students based on admit year, subjected to each course of study's internship requirements. 
    *Y4 students are only eligible if they are graduating in December 2024. 
  • Each internship must be full-time, at least 10 consecutive weeks long and meet the criteria of SMU’s credit-bearing internships, even if the student has already fulfilled his/her internship requirement.
  • Period of Internship: 6 May to 16 August 2024 (Negotiable start and end date, applies to selected positions.)
  • Stipendiary support: Up to SGD$2,500
  • You have completed your pre-internship requirements

Overseas Internship

This year, DKSTIP has expanded its programme to include an overseas internship opportunity with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) ASEAN duty stations - Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Myanmar (Yangon*), Indonesia (Jakarta), and Philippines (Manila). Selected students will be given the opportunity to work in-person at the respective UNHCR ASEAN duty stations with a stipend support of up to SGD$3,000 for the 12 weeks/3 months internship. Internship under the overseas collaboration is Global Exposure (GE) qualifying, unless otherwise stated.

*Please note that the internship with UNHCR Myanmar (Yangon) is a virtual internship. It will qualify for the mandatory internship requirement, but NOT the Global Exposure requirement.
