SEBRING, Fla. (WFLA) — Highlands County fire crews continued to fight a brush fire that encompassed 55 acres of land Monday.

Highlands County Fire Rescue said crews were deployed to the area of Kenmore Street and Granada Boulevard in Sebring after a brush fire broke out at about noon.

With help of the Florida Forest Service and Sebring Police Department, the crews used plows and bulldozers to cut fire lines, containing the fire before it began spreading to homes.

Residents in the area were evacuated but were allowed to return to their homes at 4:25 p.m.

The Florida Forestry Service is investigating the cause of the fire.
