Is process a bad word in your organization? It doesn't need to be.
Too often processes are implemented as a set of guardrails that constrain our flexibility, creativity, and ability to react in a fast-paced business environment. It can feel like it's confining us to the role of mindless drones.
The better approach is to implement processes as a roadmap. They should provide sensible defaults and communicate clear expectations. This reduces the cognitive workload of decision making and prevents errors caused by misunderstanding. But we should still be free to adjust whenever appropriate. Good processes are actually liberating because we have more time and energy to focus on the truly challenging parts of our work while simplifying the mundane parts.
