A good wall paint needs to be highly durable consider taking off the last point; the implication is that Tradex and paint & prime aren’t ‘good’ as they don’t claim to protect from bacteria, mould and mildew, and Professional doesn’t claim it protects from bacteria.

RE -PAINT

• Remove all loose or flaking paint.

• Treat any mould with bleach then rinse with water.

• Wash all surfaces with a sugar soap solution. Rinse with fresh water.

• Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from all surface contamination.

• Fill in the surface defects with suitable filler, putty or sealant.

• When using some bright or dark toned colours, a tinted undercoat may be required.’

PAINTING TIPS

• Start with Ceiling; then Walls and finish with Doors & Trim.

• For cleaner lines use masking tape to mask up areas.

• Cut in first using a brush. Then roll up to the edges using a good quality roller.

• Use a good quality 12mm nap roller to apply the wall paint.

• For best results sand with 240 grit sandpaper in between coats then dust off.

AFTER PAINTING CARE

• Avoid exposure to steam for 48 hours.

• Avoid abrasive cleaners for 7 days.

• Wash with “Spray & Wipe” or a mild detergent solution to remove marks.

May need: drop cloth, sandpaper, paint tray, roller handle & sleeve, pole, cutting in brush and personal protective equipment including safety glasses, impervious gloves and overalls.

PAINTING EXTERIOR SURFACES

PREPARATION

• Fill surface defects with suitable filler or sealant.

• Surface must be clean, dry and free from all dirt, dust, grease, oil, rust and any other surface contamination.

NEW WORK / UNPAINTED SURFACES

• Timber: Sand weathered (greyed) timber to the original timber surface. Tannin rich timbers should be primed with Taubmans 3 in 1 Prep.

• Galvanised Iron: Degrease new surfaces, thoroughly clean weathered surfaces to ensure adhesion. For structural galvanised iron, abrade with 240 grit sandpaper to remove chemical treatments. If red rust is present, treat as for steel.

• Cement Render/Concrete: Allow concrete, cement render and mortar to cure for 28 days before painting.

• Steel: Remove rust and prime with White Knight Rust Guard Metal Primer.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES

• Remove loose and flaking paint and sand surface thoroughly.

• On aged enamel use Taubmans 3 in 1 Prep for inter-coat adhesion.

• Treat bare areas as for new work.

PAINTING TIPS

• Start with gutters, fascia, eaves, broadwall and finish with doors, windows & trim.

• For cleaner lines; use masking tape to mask up areas.

AVOIDING TINTING PROBLEMS
