The Chevrots have been making wine in Maranges since 1830, and today the winery is run by two brothers, Pablo and Vincent Chevrot. Their parents started bottling wines under the Domaine Chevrot name in the 70s and the family played a key role in Maranges becoming an appellation, which was finally granted in 1988. Before 1988, wines here were classified simply as Côte de Beaune - Villages. It's worth noting that the appellation of Maranges covers three small villages: Dezize, Sampagny, and Cheilly.

Today, Domaine Chevrot owns 20 hectares of vines in the appellations of Maranges, Santenay, and Hautes Côtes de Beaune. Their oldest plots were planted by the current winemakers’ grandfather and are up to 80 years old. The brothers, Pablo and Vincent have maintained the traditions of their parents but have built upon their success: starting with the conversion of the vineyards to organic viticulture in 2008. They are practicing biodynamics as well but are not certified. No sulfur is added to red wines until bottling, they never add enzymes, acidify, or chaptalize. Fermentations are completed only with the indigenous yeats.

Chevrot Maranges 1er Cru
La Fussiere Blanc 2019
White | 750 ml | JM 91

Full yellow with the lightest of green tints. The 2019 la Fussière has a crystalline purity over and above the sunshine of the vintage. There is a touch of oak at the back, while the fruit in the mouth is both quite rich this year and saline at the same time.

Pretty and vibrant purple, this fills the mouth to a much greater extent than the generics, with an attractive crunch of acidity behind, deep red fruit, it is really impressive nonetheless. Very stylish and certainly long.

Chevrot Maranges Sur Le Chene 2018
Red | 750 ml | JM 91

Bottled in November. Fine supple mid purple colour. There is a class and elegance to the bouquet. Multiple vine ages but predominantly pinot fin, and some ancient vines (80 year old) managed by horse and not destemmed. Not massively intense but beautifully balanced and with a superb long finish.

Very classy bouquet shows the benefit, with a regal wealth of fruit. This is spectacular, in its deep royal red fruit with just a touch of black at the edges. No sign of any discordant tannins. Another great example from this special vineyard.
