Located in Morey-Saint-Denis on the Route des Grands Crus, Domaine des Lambrays is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most prestigious vineyards. There are references to the estate in the records of the Abbaye de Citeaux dating back to 1365. Although the wine business had its most significant turn in 1979 when Thierry Brouin came to the cellar. Working with winemaker Thierry Brouin, they restored the estate and its wine to its former glory, and in 1981 Domaine des Lambrays was awarded Grand Cru status. In 2014 the LVMH group acquired the Domaine.
Clos des Lambrays is exclusively planted with Pinot Noir grapevines which are on average over 40 years old (some old vines are even 70+ years). The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, of which 50% are new and in good vintages the wine is able to keep for decades.
Always elegant and refined, the wine truly expresses its terroir. The “second wine” from the Clos des Lambrays is the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru “Les Loups”, produced from the younger vines of the vineyard. Other wines produced by Domaine des Lambrays are 2 Premier Crus from Puligny-Montrachet and made from Chardonnay: “Clos du Cailleret” and “Les Folatières” and a red “village wine” from Morey-Saint-Denis.
The Domaine has consistently produced superb wines over the years, earning it the sobriquet “jewel of the Côte de Nuits”.
