Domaine Leflaive traces its origins to 1717 when Claude Leflaive married a woman from Puligny and became one of the first vignerons on record in the village. The true founder of the domaine was Joseph Leflaive who inherited two hectares of vines in 1905. Through astute acquisitions this expanded to twenty hectares. Sons Vincent and Jo continued to manage the estate on the death of their father in 1953, succeeded by Vincent’s daughter Anne-Claude in 1994. Brice de La Morandière, who is the great-grandson of Joseph Leflaive took over in 2015.
After Anne-Claude’s untimely death her legacy continues with the domaine’s pioneering adoption of biodynamic viticulture. Under Brice de La Morandière the domaine has moved to DIAM closures and improvements have been made in the cellars to avoid pumping the wines. There have been changes in the vineyards with regard to pruning, composting and the use of cover crops. The domaine now owns parcels in four of the five Montrachet grands crus and four of the best premiers crus, including a large portion of Clavoillon, for a total of 24 hectares.
