Picked on the same day as the Nuits-St-Georges which is rare. This is a bit serious on the nose: “mon petit Bâtard” says Jean-Pierre. This Morey wants to be sultry but stays fresh, with some iodine. A few peaches and even a strawberry touch but these are just at the edge because the core remain fresh apple. Crisp with riper tones.

This is more aromatically expressive than usual with its combination of relatively elegant notes of red currant, raspberry, spice, earth, and discreet floral nuances. There is once again fine volume to the detailed and muscular big-bodied flavors that display power on the palate coating, youthfully austere and very firm finish.

The ever-changing nose is an explosion of spices (curry and cinnamon) and noble woods, and from the sheer concentration it displays a myriad of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, balsamic herbs and even a note of coconut. After some time in the glass the roasted orange notes of Muscat come back intermixed with very spicy incense notes. The palate is immensely concentrated, with the alcohol perfectly integrated and the extreme sweetness compensated by a piercing acidity that reminds me of some century-old Madeiras. It ends with an acute coffee note. The aftertaste is eternal.

Deep garnet-purple in color, it delivers very serious, classic cassis, cedar chest, pencil shavings and warm plums notes with nuances of lavender, dark chocolate, tobacco and crushed rocks with a waft of black olives. Full-bodied, the palate is solidly structured with firm, chunky tannins and bold freshness supporting the densely packed, muscular fruit, finishing long and mineral-laced.
