BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis 2022
White | Burg 89-91
Here there is notably better typicity with its nose of ripe pear, mineral reduction and algae. The sleek, delicious and more voluminous flavors that possess solid mid-palate density while displaying good precision on the clean, dry and sneaky long finale. This is worth checking out.

DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis Tete d'Or 2022
White | Burg 89-92
A discreet dollop of wood sets off a similar set of aromas that offer a hint of iodine. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is also sleek and vibrant with a slightly finer texture that carries over to the balanced, youthfully austere and slightly more compact finale. This is very good for its level and also worth considering.

DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons 2022
White | Burg 90-93
An overtly floral-suffused nose reflects notes of sea breeze, zest confit and a whiff of white pepper. There is notably better refinement if not necessarily better density to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that possess even better depth on the lightly austere, structured and lingering finale. While it should repay a decade or so of keeping, it should also be reasonably approachable after only 4 to 5 years.

DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2022
White | Burg 90-93
Here the wood is no longer subtle though neither does it dominate the mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, orange peel and moderate Chablis elements. On the palate the larger-bodied and concentrated flavors are also generously proportioned while concluding in a balanced, dry and powerful finish. This could use more depth so a few years of keeping should prove beneficial.

DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre 2022
White | Burg 91-94
More moderate though still easily detectible wood is present on the nose of iodine, mineral reduction, white flowers and a hint of oyster shell. The markedly finer middleweight flavors exude evident minerality that adds a sense of lift to the balanced, nicely dry and impressively long finish that displays the natural class of a fine MdT. Excellent.

DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir 2022
White | Burg 91-94
Here too there is a vague whiff of exotic fruit lurking in the background of the moderately oaked nose of mineral reduction, pretty floral and ample spice wisps. There is excellent punch to the markedly finer if much less powerful and imposing middleweight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lingering, firm and built-to-age finale. This needs to develop more depth but that should not be a problem if it's allowed at least a few years of cellaring.

BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2022
White | Burg 91-93
Generous though not overwhelming wood influence fights somewhat with the spicy aromas of acacia blossom, wet stone and oyster shell wisps. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate concentration to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with minerality that is particularly apparent on the compact, youthfully austere and equally built-to-age finish. Like the Vaudésir, this needs to develop better depth and to integrate its wood treatment so moderate patience is advised.

DOMAINE BILLAUD-SIMON
Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 2022
White | Burg 92-95
In the same fashion as the Les Clos, very generous wood influence stops just short of overshadowing the attractively spicy and floral nose of shellfish, sea breeze and quinine. The medium-bodied flavors are rich to the point of opulence thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm acid spine shaping the wonderfully complex, persistent and balanced finale. This is oakier than I prefer but the density is such that if given time, it should successfully integrate. Excellent.
