Greetings everyone,

The road adventures continue with Tony Trischka's Earl Jam, in anticipation of his new album (called Earl Jam!) coming out in June. We had a blast at Wintergrass near Seattle, WA recently where I got to play with some of my favorite musicians and see old friends. Tony's added a bunch more dates this year and there are more announcements to come - check my calendar and stay tuned. Hopefully we'll be coming to your area!

Performing the Jim & Jesse classic "Just Wondering Why" with Jacob Jolliff last summer along the Kaw River in Lawrence, KS.
Jacob Jolliff and I are working the duo album we tracked just before New Years – a tribute to the music of Jim & Jesse and the Virginia Boys. We don’t have a release date yet but I look forward to yelling it far and wide when we do. It was really fun recording to make and I look forward to highlighting some J&J music that may be a little under the radar but is super cool. Jacob and I are performing on March 17 at the Back Porch Festival in Northampton, MA. It's a great lineup and we hope to see you there!
For you NYC folks, I've got two events coming up at the venerable Jalopy Theatre in Brooklyn. This Saturday I'll be hosting an open bluegrass jam session from 5-7pm with Nate Sabat on bass. Then I've put together an 8pm show with Alex Hargreaves, Jacob Jolliff, and Nate. It's sold out but there will be a handful of standing room tickets available at the door if you want to take your chances. Looking ahead, we've just announced another Jalopy show on May 12 with another awesome band -- Tatiana Hargreaves, BB Bowness, Cesar Moreno, and Erik Alvar. Don't miss this one!
Tonight I continue my monthly residency at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC. It's a 9pm solo set. Come at 8pm for Moonlight Ramble.
I'm looking forward to returning to Bryan Sutton's Blue Ridge Guitar Camp in Brevard, NC. The camp applications are closed but they've just announced the big public concert for Saturday, June 1- The North Carolina Guitar Celebration. I'll be participating along with our host, Bryan, The Del McCoury Band, Jerry Douglas, Watkins Family Hour and more. It's going to be a great show in an beautiful location.
Here's another great music camp in a beautiful location: The Ashokan Center in New York's Hudson Valley is hosting a bluegrass week from July 29-Aug 2. I'll be teaching alongside Della Mae, Mike Compton & Joe Newbury and more great folks. Can't wait!
One more! Chris Thile is taking his AcoustiCamp to the West Coast this year. It's a bacchanalia of learning, listening, jamming, good food, coctails (or mocktails!). A truly exquisite experience with an incredible faculty including Punch Brothers, Julian Lage, Sierra Hull, and more. It's just been announced today. Last year it sold out real quick so don't sleep on this opportunity.
When I was out at Wintergrass I had the great opportunity to sit down with both Tim O'Brien and Laurie Lewis for my school of bluegrass vocals on ArtistWorks. I've been making monthly videos with different special guests to commemorate Doc Watson's centennial last year. Folks have been sharing Doc songs and stories and Laurie and Tim both had some great ones! The video with Tim is up on my site now, and the one with Laurie is coming soon. Check it out!
On the teaching front, I've got various Zoom classes coming up. Next up is a deep dive into the guitar style of Tony Rice, focusing on his seminal 1983 (mostly) solo album Church Street Blues. It meets for five Sunday afternoons starting April. 7. Please message me if you would like to reserve a spot or if you are wondering if a class is right for you. I expect this one to fill up so don't delay!
