2022 Mid-term Surveys: Women of Color Voters in Georgia, Nevada, and Michigan

In close collaboration with 9to5 Georgia, Mothering Justice (MI), Somos Votantes (NV), Make it Work Nevada, and the Asian Community Development Council (NV), the National Women’s Law Center surveyed what issues are top-of-mind and motivating for Black working women, Black moms, and women of color across communities in these states. We wanted to show how motivating gender justice policies are for these core constituencies as well as their perceptions of impact on governance and engagement by elected officials.

What We Found

Across all three states:

Women of color voters – Black working women in Georgia, Black moms in Michigan, and Nevada’s Latinas, Black women, and AANHPI women – believe in their ability to impact the way the country, their states, and their local communities are governed.
Their top-of-mind, motivating issues – economic security and reproductive freedom – are key to all people thriving, but women of color voters are far more likely to name that ensuring economic security and reproductive freedom for all as important and top-of-mind compared to white voters.
Women of color will show up for themselves and their communities – including by voting – but elected officials have much more to deliver in terms of policy change that tackles structural inequities and meets the needs of women and communities of color.
