OYA – THE MUSICAL I NEVER WROTE

Imagine an afro-fantasy musical that uncovers the richness of West African culture, celebrates the mighty Yoruba goddess known as OYA, and explores themes of spirituality, disability, emotion and community.

Created by powerhouse performer, playwright and poet Jordan Charles, OYA is a musical that began as a university dissertation idea and over the past 10 years has finally birthed this work-in-progress presentation.

Join us for an evening of sharing OYA joy, as Jordan Charles will perform selected songs from the musical, present costuming and visual art planned for the play, as well as telling the heart-wrenching tale of OYA’s personal relevance to him.

OYA will be the first project by OBSIDIA Collective – a production and community interest collective founded by Jordan Charles and Cynthia Chika Franklin.

This work-in-progress presentation aims to give an overview of the magical world of OYA and encourage interest, feedback and networking with industry related people and networks. We can’t wait to share the blessings of OYA with you!
