Ray and Alan take on the 2020 remake of Disney’s 1998 ‘Mulan’. They notice the lack of depth in the writing, plot holes, and artistry of the movie. Discussed are the political controversies that surrounded the release, comparing it to 'Star Wars' and 'Black Panther', and what ‘diversity’ actually means to them.

Food connects us, our history shapes us

While making tacos I was listening to the Donut King episode of Reel Asian Podcast. A really good listen on the history why donut boxes are pink and the rise and fall of Uncle Ted’s empire.

Renée Ya and host Raymond Luu weigh in on nostalgia, political climates and tensions. Some very good commentary and, funny enough, they also talk about taking photos of food and adapting to change and technology with small family owned generational businesses (as I take a photo of my food). Ya and Luu both have great voices and the episode is well paced with good chemistry between the hosts. Definitely worth a listen.

So glad I was recommend this podcast on the Asian American experience in media through Asian American voices. Looking forward to catching up on more episodes.

Insightful and addicting!

Given the explosion of podcasts these days, it’s hard to find a really good one. This is one of them! As an Asian American, this podcast caught my eye right away, especially as someone deeply interested in how to tackle the lack of Asian American representation in pop culture. Renee, Alan, Raymond, and Brian do an awesome job of keeping me engaged and it’s one of the podcasts that just gives you “good feels.”
