American Culture feat. Midwife – “Let It Go”

“Let It Go” decides goes with a vibe and doesn’t look back. As the lead single from American Culture’s new album, Hey Brother, It’s Been a While, the listen’s energy plane is a synesthesiac transmission, embracing the psychedelic currents moving throughout the scene that’s been making for some of the more brilliantly weird strains of hardcore and punk we’re hearing out there lately. Add their name to the swell of diverse shape-shifting on the sounds alongside Militarie Gun, Angel Du$t, MSPAINT, and High Vis, as for their part, the Denver four-piece of guitarists and co-vocalist Chris Adolf and Michael Stein, bassist Lucas Johannes, and drummer Scott Beck are releasing their primal scream into the universe and hearing it mirrored back right at them in the healing ether of Midwife’s Madeline Johnston. “When everything looks perfect now / That’s how you know it’s fake / It’s your turn to bend with it, boy / Unless you’d rather break,” goes one verse, punctuated with Byrne-ian affliction on the tongue. As the soundboard grooves around these thoughts, the band acknowledge the shit they’ve seen without letting it hold them back. They’re letting any and all bad vibrations ripple off the mind.
