Skycomp Solutions is The Official Technology Support for the 2022 Canada Games

Why our Team is beyond excited to be The Official Technology Support Partner for the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games!

Skycomp Solutions Inc - The Official Technology Support for the 2022 Canada Games

First, what are the Canada Games? And when are they coming to Niagara?

Held every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games bring together over 2,000 able-bodied athletes, as well athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities, from each Canadian province and territory to compete for medals — much like the Olympics.

As our country’s largest multi-sport competition, the Canada Games span over 35 different events and showcase the very best in Canadian sport. More importantly, the Games bring us together to celebrate the very best in Canadian spirit. They are a true reflection of what it means to be Canadian and embody our collective belief that we can all do, and be something greater — as individuals, as a community and as a country.

From August 6-21, 2022, Niagara will be the host of the 28th edition of the Canada Games —marking just the third time in history the event has taken place in the province of Ontario and the first time in 21 years. In total, more than 5,000 up-and-coming athletes, their coaches and support staff, along with close to 4,500 volunteers, will gather in the Niagara Region to take part in this national competition.

Why is the Skycomp Team excited to be part of the Games?

The entire Skycomp team are sports fans to say the least, as we all participate in different sports in the Niagara Region. John - our CIO is a soccer player, Serge - our CEO is a hockey player, Sebastian - our Digital Media Specialist is a tennis player as well as a boulderer/rock climber. Patrick - one of our Computer System Technicians played soccer for the Niagara College Knights, and many of our other employees enjoy playing sports and being active. Let’s just say… WE LOVE SPORTS!

We are quite the athletic team, but those of us who are maybe not athletes here at Skycomp still LOVE to watch sports of all types.

We have involved ourselves in the community in many ways. Serge is on the Royal Henley Regatta Board and his son Ricky used to row for E.L. Crossley Secondary School's Team. Unfortunately, this year the Henley Regatta had to be cancelled because of the global pandemic. Serge and Melissa – our Service Manager, have also both been a part of the Rotary Club of St. Catharines for over 4 years, which services many local events throughout the year, including the annual Rib Fest!

What does it look like to be a Technology Support Partner for an event of this scale?

Many elements and teamwork must come together to support an event of this scale. Not only do we have to manage day to day technology problems that occur, but also make sure that networks are optimized and secure to safely transport results from venues across the Niagara Region. Along with that, many of these events will be streamed or broadcast across different platforms for people to watch from across Canada and possibly beyond. This requires a fast, reliable, and secure network.

The Skycomp Team loves being a part of large Community Sporting Events:

Back in 2015, we were a part of the Pan American and Parapan American Games. Our team set up the network for the Welland International Flatwater Center, which consisted of many technology elements needed to make this event run smoothly. We also worked with the 2018 Canoe Polo World Championships, where athletes from across the globe showed up to the Flatwater Center and the events were broadcast around the world!

Serge has been involved in many of these events making sure that every piece of technology is running smoothly.

Sebastian – Our Digital Media Specialist comes from a broadcasting and television background and has got to work in some cool locations along the way.

Not only is our team ready to bring Skycomp’s high level energy, but most importantly our high-level support to the 2022 Canada Games.

Skycomp and all of Niagara are ready! See you in the stands August 6-21st, 2022!
