RADAR:Bess

Bessem Obenofude, popularly known as Bess, is a Nigerian/Cameroonian singer and songwriter. Best known for her intentional lyrics and soulful sound, she’s a rising star in the African music scene.

Raised between Cameroon and Nigeria, her sound has been greatly influenced by African names such as Burna boy, Niniola, Asa, Charlotte Dipanda, Fela Kuti and many more. Although, a few more foreign names such Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Drake influenced her RnB side.

Having a very musical childhood, Bess recalls writing songs as early as when she was 7, making songs about literally anything and everything. In secondary school, she formed small singing groups with her classmates and she dreamt of creating a choir as big as the Soweto choir. She also joined the school band where she learned how to play the drums.

Kicking off her career in 2021, Bess describes her journey as interesting and very exciting. Noting that there’s still a lot she has to learn and she’s trying to be prepared for any lessons she has to take on this journey.

She tells us that the plan for the rest of the year is to release more music, expand her brand and collaborate with other amazing artistes and creatives.
