SPOTLIGHT: Kold AF

Nigerian singer-songwriter Aninooritsewarami Oritsesan, better known by her stage name “Kold AF,” is renowned for her ability to meld many musical genres. In Nigeria’s music industry, she is a rising star.

Kold AF describes her music as eclectic and unique to her, citing artists like Rihanna, Burna Boy, Sean Paul and Beyonce as influences. Her Afro-fusion sound is a distinctive and imaginative fusion of Afropop, RnB, and dancehall.

In 2020, she released a few joint tracks under the moniker “Koel,” one of which was featured in a Showtime series. She realized she needed to take some time to work on her craft as a result of her self-awareness and her manager’s advise, thus the rebranding to “Kold AF” started.

Kold AF describes her journey so far as interesting. She says:

“In one word. It’s been ‘Interesting’, a lot of growing, learning, networking and some understandable Ls. I really came out of my shell and comfort zone during this time and I’ve taken my craft seriously.

Music is my life and always has been, it only took me time to realize it. Since I’ve started, I’ve seen it as a learning process, I have goals and I want to get better in every aspect in order to reach where I’m headed.”

Q: Was there any moment that reassured you?

Kold AF: Now, listening to my unreleased is plenty reassurance for me, coupled with the reaction/ love people have shown at different times as well as their support.

Q: What inspired “Pisces” and “Messy” on the collective album, “Open House Vol. 1”?

Kold AF: That camp was one of the best camps I’ve been to so far. The energy was amazing. Everyone brought their A-game. So ‘Pisces’ and ‘Messy’ are results of that. Mo’gunz and Kaey came with that heat and I had to match it of course.

Q:  What was the inspiration about your debut project “Kold Szn”?

Kold AF:  It was centered around the theme of ‘Love’ and different situations ranging from ecstasy from the feeling to heartbreak.

I decided I wanted to start on that theme just because of its general relatability and my own personal experience with it.

Q: What are your plans for the year?

Kold AF: I have an EP or two I’m planning on dropping this year by God’s grace! I’m really excited about that. Details on that will be shared on my socials at the right time so y’all make sure to follow me @sheiskold on every platform if you liked this interview.
