ACPD: Man beaten in attempted jewelry robbery

A man was seriously injured when two acquaintances tried to rob him of jewelry early Sunday morning, police say.

The incident happened early Sunday morning in the Arlington Mill neighborhood. The man was hospitalized and two suspects — who share the same last name — were later arrested.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING BY MOB, 2024-04280043, 5600 block of 8th Street S. At approximately 4:12 a.m. on April 28, police were dispatched to the report of a fight. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim and two male suspects, who are acquaintances, were outside a residence when the suspects allegedly assaulted the victim and attempted to steal his jewelry before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. On the morning of April 29, officers obtained warrants for the two suspects, who were subsequently taken into custody. [Suspect one], 28, of Arlington, Va. and [suspect two], 32, of Arlington, Va. were arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding by Mob and Attempted Robbery.

Also in the weekend crime report was a Friday evening robbery in Pentagon City, during which female teen suspects allegedly struck a security guard at a store.

ROBBERY, 2024-04260225, 1000 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 6:16 p.m. on April 26, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery by force. Upon arrival, it was determined three juvenile female suspects entered the business, concealed merchandise and attempted to leave without payment when loss prevention personnel confronted them. One suspect then struck loss prevention personnel with merchandise before the group discarded the stolen items and fled the store. The group briefly returned to the business, during which one suspect was detained by loss prevention. No injuries were reported. Responding officers located the remaining suspects in the area and detained them. A petition for one juvenile female suspect was obtained for Robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
