Buchpräsentation „The Red Ribbon“ (2019) Performative Lesung mit Abdul Samad Haidari im Gespräch mit Amina Aziz. Mit einer Video-Intervention von Cana Bilir-Meier

Im Rahmen des von der Josef und Hilde Wilberz-Stiftung geförderten internationalen Atelierstipendiums der Stadt Mönchengladbach hat die Künstlerin und Filmemacherin Cana Bilir-Meier, eine dreiteilige Online-Veranstaltungsreihe mit dem Titel Hidden Hope / Deep in my chest kuratiert und in Kooperation mit dem Städtischen Kulturbüro, dem Kunstverein Jesteburg sowie dem KÖNTGES der Initiative Altstadt Mönchengladbach organisiert. Ergänzend zur Veranstaltungsreihe erscheint im Frühjahr 2021 ein künstlerischer Katalog, in dem sich die Künstlerin mit den Themen Archive, Erinnerung, Solidarität, Revolution(en), Migration und Arbeit in Form von Lyrik, Texten und Bildern auseinandersetzt welches den künstlerischen Abschluss ihres Stipendiums in Mönchengladbach markiert.

In der ersten Veranstaltung der Reihe Hidden Hope / Deep in my chest, am 21.02. um 17 Uhr, diskutiert die Journalistin Amina Aziz mit dem Schriftsteller Abdul Samad Haidari über seinen Gedichtband “The Red Ribbon” (2019), in dem Haidari die Geschichte als Refugee und seiner Flucht von Afghanistan in den Iran und nach Indonesien beschreibt. Es ist eine Geschichte von Gewalt und Verlust, wobei die lyrische Verarbeitung seiner Geschichte Hoffnung in sich birgt. Der Abend wird mit Filmausschnitten von Cana Bilir-Meiers Film “This Makes Me Want to Predict the Past” begleitet.

Welche neuen, widerständigen, kritischen und poetischen Formen der Erzählung können konzipiert und diskutiert werden? Wer ist sichtbar, welche Geschichten werden erzählt und wie drücken sich diese “hidden histories” in der Poesie aus? In der performativen Lesung mit dem Schriftsteller Abdul Samad Haidari, wird die Journalistin Amina Aziz in einem gemeinsamen Gespräch das Buch “The Red Ribbon” (2019) von Haidari vorstellen, welches in Form von Gedichten, eindrucksvoll, präzise und mutig die Geschichte seiner Flucht aus Afghanistan nach Indonesien schildert.

Amina Aziz ist Journalistin, wissenschaftliche Referentin und politische Bildnerin. Sie hat u.a. zu Post- und Dekolonialität, Islamismus, post-islamistischen Gesellschaften, sowie Drogenpolitik geforscht und arbeitet aus intersektionaler und machtkritischer Perspektive zu Themen der Gegenwart und Zukunft.

Abdul Samad Haidari ist Autor, Übersetzer, Schriftsteller, Journalist und Refugee aus Afghanistan und lebt seit 2014 in Indonesien nachdem er 2013 gezwungen war sein Land zu verlassen. Er studierte in Pakistan und arbeitete u.a. als Lehrer für Computer Science und Englisch. Cana Bilir-Meier, arbeitet als Filmemacherin, Kunstpädagogin und Filmkuratorin. Ihre künstlerischen, filmischen und filmisch-performativen Arbeiten bewegen sich an den Schnittstellen von Archivarbeit, Textproduktion, historischen Recherchen und zeitgenössischer Medienreflexivität oder auch -archäologie.

As part of the international studio scholarship of the city of Mönchengladbach, funded by the Josef and Hilde-Wilberz Foundation, the artist and filmmaker Cana Bilir-Meier, has curated an online event series with three parts entitled “Hidden Hope / Deep in my chest”. The event series is organized in cooperation with the Kulturbüro Mönchengladbach Municipal Cultural Office, the Kunstverein Jesteburg and the KÖNTGES of the Initiative Altstadt Mönchengladbach. In addition to the series of events, an artistic catalog will be published in spring 2021, in which the artist addresses themes like archives, memory, solidarity, revolution(s), migration and work in the form of poetry, texts and images, marking the artistic conclusion of her fellowship in Mönchengladbach.

In the first event of the “Hidden Hope / Deep in my chest” series, on Feb. 21, 2021 at 5 p.m., journalist Amina Aziz will discuss with writer Abdul Samad Haidari his poetry collection „The Red Ribbon“ (2019), in which Haidari describes his story as a refugee and his fleeing from Afghanistan to Iran and Indonesia. It is a story of violence and loss, though the lyrical treatment of his story holds hope. The evening will be accompanied by film clips from Cana Bilir-Meier’s film „This Makes Me Want to Predict the Past.“

Which new, resistant, critical and poetic forms of narrative can be conceived and discussed? Who is visible, what stories are told, and how are these „hidden histories“ expressed in poetry? During the performative reading with writer Abdul Samad Haidari, journalist Amina Aziz will present in a conversation Haidari’s book „The Red Ribbon“ (2019), which in the form of poems, impressively, precisely and courageously describes the story of his flight from Afghanistan to Indonesia.

Amina Aziz is a journalist, academic speaker and political educator. She conducts research on postcoloniality and decoloniality, Islamism, post-Islamist societies, and drug policy, among other topics, and works from an intersectional and power-critical perspective on contemporary and future topics.

Abdul Samad Haidari is a refugee from Afghanistan, an author, translator, writer, journalist, and poet who has been living in Indonesia since 2014 after being forced to leave his country in 2013. He studied in Pakistan and worked as a computer science and English language teacher, among other things.
