Actor, director, and screenwriter Lena Dunham is parting ways with her Los Angeles bungalow. The Emmy-nominated creator and star of HBO’s hit series Girls purchased the West Hollywood property in 2015 for $2,725,000, but after treating it to a designer remodel, she is now seeking $2,795,000.

Walled in by thick hedges, the 1920s property is a private and peaceful refuge in the heart of West Hollywood. Long before award-winning screenwriter Lena Dunham acquired it in 2015, the home was once owned by actor George Peppard, who starred in Breakfast at Tiffany’s alongside Audrey Hepburn.

The multi-structure compound is located on a tree-lined street in the coveted area of Spaulding Square. Tall, thick hedges surrounding the lot offer ample privacy, while also creating a feeling of quiet serenity upon crossing the threshold of the gated entrance. The main residence, built in 1919, features Greek Revival details on the exterior facade—including a wide-columned porch and hip roof, which seamlessly blend with the home’s newly designed interior.

The main residence was built in 1919, but was recently redesigned by Brenda Antin. It now features a refreshing, modern aesthetic. In the living room, new additions, such as the Swedish wide-plank floors, complement original details like the brick fireplace and pane windows.

For the revamp, Dunham brought on acclaimed designer Brenda Antin to modernize the space while maintaining its original character. Now finished with a calming, neutral palette, the bright and airy interior boasts sleek fixtures and Swedish wide-plank floors, in addition to walls of custom built-ins and beadboard coved ceilings.

The main dining area is located between the living room and kitchen. The sleek black chairs around the wooden table pop against the white walls and cream-toned trim.

The crisp, refreshing aesthetic, complete with muted decor, is a radical change from Dunham’s description of the interior in a 2018 interview with New York magazine. There, she describes it as having "purple snakeskin poufs, leopard-print rugs, and bright green walls." In addition to spacious living areas, the home also offers two bedrooms, two baths, a reading den, and a screen porch. A manicured lawn awaits in the backyard, complete with a large pool, outdoor dining area, and detached guest house.
