About this event

On Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 11-2pm, a community of Asian parents in City of Decatur, along with the PTA DEI committees of City Schools of Decatur K-2 elementary schools, will host Decatur’s 1st Lunar New Year celebration at Legacy Park.

Please help us celebrate this important holiday across the Asian diaspora and share the rich history and many cultural traditions that will enter into the Year of the Tiger. Our marquee event will be a Lion Dance, by the Chien Hong School of Kung Fu, at 12:30pm that will be shared with a brief history and lesson on the symbolism of the dance.

We will have craft booths representing Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, and Filipino cultures and children will get passports that they can stamp as they move between booths.

Tasty Filipino food from Adobo ATL and The Real Deal Bakery, and boba tea from T+Mi will be available for sale. Avoid the lines and pre-order a lunch package from Sweet Auburn BBQ for pickup (deadline 3pm Wed 1/26) or Adobo ATL (deadline Saturday). Limited quantities of japchae will be provided by Salaryman.

Follow us on Facebook or Instagram @DecaturLNY #DecaturLNY for updates on vendors, specials, and more

Weather permitting, this event will be outdoors. Otherwise it will take place inside the Cochran Building. Masks are required outdoors and indoors.

All proceeds from ticket sales will fund the PTA DEI committees of CSD's lower elementary schools. If you would like to volunteer or be a vendor at this event, please follow this link.

Special thanks to Edwin Jarvis and Salaryman for generously donating goods to this event.
