Next Wave

When Los Angeles-based Linda Hayslett began looking for a second career after burnout from the fashion world, “interior design just never was on my radar, because in my mind a designer was an older woman who covered things in frilly florals." But after redoing her own home in California, she went back to design school—and took to it.

Hayslett relishes devising unique solutions for her clients, and working closely with the construction team to do so. “I love being in the middle of it,” the designer says of her penchant for frequent and involved construction site visits. She still routinely looks to fashion as an inspiration—though her interiors are probably more akin to a perfect pair of well-worn jeans than a runway look. “My work is not fussy, but it’s still comfortable,” says Hayslett. “It has strong shapes, but will always be warm.”
