Story

I’m running a marathon for orche in honour of my incredible Grandad who has recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. Grandad is my best friend and the most important role model in my life. He’s one of my biggest supporters, the person who can put the biggest smile on my face, and the man who has shown me what it is to love family whole heartedly and unconditionally. I’m so proud to say that he is the strongest person I know and is fighting so hard to fight this cruel disease. I want to give him something to look forward to seeing and be proud of 🫶, and hopefully show him just how much I care about him. Anything you can do to support me I would appreciate so much, and I know he will too ❤️❤️.

The money goes towards researching and implementing effective treatment for esophageal cancer and supports sufferers and their family with diagnosis/ treatment. Oesophageal cancer is classically poorly diagnosed and diagnosed when it is much more advanced.

Ochre has recently been instrumental in the purchase of a state-of-the-art LIFE-GI (light-induced-fluorescence-endoscopy) system, now in operation at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow. The system, costing £39,000, is capable of detecting cancerous cells at a very early stage, thereby offering vastly improved chances of survival to oesophageal cancer patients. This is of course a very expensive system and so the more money I raise the more people they can help.

The research so far is what has given me this time with my Grandad, and I hope by raising money I can give this opportunity to someone else.

Thank you xx

About the charity

OCHRE works to raise awareness of oesophageal cancer, a hard to treat, less survivable cancer. We fund research to support better outcomes. We work with health services and policy makers to improve understanding of the dangers of heartburn and the need for earlier diagnosis which can save lives.
