IHG Hotels & Resorts announced that it has signed its first management contract in Japan with Kajima Corporation to open ANA Holiday Inn Resort Karuizawa in 2025. The hotel will be an all-season resort which is an hour and a half away from Tokyo Station in a spectacular location at an altitude of 1,300 metres in the majestic Asama wilderness with 100 guest rooms, 2 pet-friendly villas, a restaurant, natural hot spring, gym, indoor swimming pool and other facilities. IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has announced that it has signed its first management contract with Samty K.K. to open voco Hiroshima in mid 2027. 今夏、40周年のアニバーサリーを迎えたANAインターコンチネンタル万座ビーチリゾート。 懐かしい写真とともに、万座の「今」と「昔」をご紹介してきた #TBT とうとう今日が最終回です。 最後を締めくくるのは、ホテル建設前の航空写真。 ホテル建設に向け土地選定を任されたスタッフは、当初なかなか良い候補地が見つからず、思案していたそうです。そんな中、図らずも万座毛見学時に立ち寄ったこの場所を見て、ここまで自然豊かで美しい場所が手つかずで残っていることに驚き、「この場所なら！」と魅せられ、計画が進んだというエピソードが語り継がれています。 あれから40年、周囲を美しいサンゴ礁の海に囲まれた、貝殻をモチーフにした白亜のホテルは、今も変わることなくここにあります。次の節目となる50周年に向け、ANAインターコンチネンタル万座ビーチリゾートのチャレンジは続きます。 Celebrating its 40th anniversary this summer at ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort. We have been introducing the "now" and the "past" of Manza with nostalgic photos #TBT, and here we come with the final episode. The last one is an aerial view of Manza before the hotel construction. The person in charge of selecting a site for the hotel's construction was at first unable to find a good possible options for the resort. . Then, when he stopped by this site on a tour of Cape Manza, he was surprised to see such a beautiful and natural place still intact, and he thought, "This is it!" The plan for the project was then underway. Forty years have passed since then, and the chalk-white hotel with a seashell motif, surrounded by the beautiful coral reef sea, continues to stand unchanged. 今夏、40周年のアニバーサリーイヤーを迎えたANAインターコンチネンタル万座ビーチリゾート。 毎週木曜日の#TBT も残すところあと2回となりました。今週も万座の歴史を皆さまと一緒に振り返ります。 当リゾートでは、これまで数多くのVIPをお迎えしてきましたが、2000年の主要国首脳会議（九州・沖縄サミット）で来沖されたビル・クリントン米元大統領が宿泊された際は、安全上の観点からホテル全館が貸切となり、正面玄関には金属探知機を設置し厳戒態勢にてお迎えしました。ホテルの前の国道58号線では、サミット会場となる名護市の万国津梁館までの道のりに大規模な検問が敷かれ、首脳の移動中は車での通勤が禁止されるなど、すべてがサミットを中心とした動きになりました。2枚目の写真は、米国のプレスや関係者も参加した打ち上げの様子。張りつめた緊張から解放され、会は大いに盛り上がったそうです。 最終回の #TBT もお楽しみに。 Celebrating 40th anniversary at ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort! When former U.S. President Bill Clinton came to Okinawa for the 2000 Kyushu-Okinawa Summit, the entire hotel was reserved for his stay for for security reasons, and metal detectors were installed at the main entrance. Everything revolved around the summit, as a massive checkpoint was set up on Route 58 in front of the hotel on the road to the main summit venue in Nago City, and all of our employees used a shuttle bus service to go to work at the resort instead of commuting by car. The second photo was taken at the post summit party where the U.S. press and officials got together at the resort's atrium. Everyone enjoyed the post summit party after all the hard work and so much tension around that was finally over. See you next weel at the final #TBT.

今夏、40周年のアニバーサリーイヤーを迎えたANAインターコンチネンタル万座ビーチリゾート。 毎週木曜日は#TBT。万座の「今」と「昔」、40年の歴史を皆さまにお伝えします。 今週のテーマは「人」。開業時の40年前から万座で働いているチームメンバーをご紹介します。 植栽管理チームの仲宗根俊行は、地元の農林高校を卒業、当リゾートに入社し、それ以降、植物の管理メンテナンスを行うプロです。現在、植栽管理チームには13名在籍していますが、開業前の入社当時は、植栽の専任は仲宗根ひとりだったそうです。 国定公園にも指定される当リゾートは、約4万坪という広大な敷地を持ち、それを仲宗根のチームが管理しています。木々が豊かで、冬でも花々が咲き誇っているのは、毎日欠かさず手入れを行っているから。ガーデンだけでなく、館内の観葉植物の手入れも担います。台風接近の時には、建物にネットを張るなどの事前の台風対策に始まり、過ぎた後の敷地内の被害状況確認や修繕など、この土地ならではの苦労もありますが、当リゾートに訪れるお客さまにいつでも緑豊かな南国らしさを感じていただけるように、と手入れを怠ることはありません。当リゾートを陰ながら支える、頼もしい存在です。 入社当時の思い出は、当リゾートが撮影の舞台となった1984年の大ヒット邦画「メイン・テーマ」の撮影時に、主演を務めた薬師丸ひろ子さんによる記念植樹イベントのサポートをしたこと。今でも鮮明に覚えているそうです。 ホテルにお越しになられる際には、敷地内の植物にも是非ご注目ください。 次回の #TBT もお楽しみに♡ ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort celebrating its 40th anniversary this year! This week's #TBT let's take a closer look at one colleague who has been working at Manza since its opening. Meet Toshiyuki Nakasone, a member of the Planting Management Team. After graduating from a local agriculture and forestry high school, he joined the resort and has been managing and maintaining the plants in the hotel ever since. The team now has 13 members, but when he joined the hotel before it opened, Nakasone was the only one in charge of planting. The resort, which is also designated as a national park, has a vast site of about 132,231 square meters, and Nakasone's team manages throughout. The trees are abundant and the flowers are in full bloom even in winter, thanks to his team's daily maintenance. In addition to the garden, his team also takes care of the houseplants inside the buildings. In Okinawa, when a typhoon is approaching, we have to take measures against the typhoon in advance, and after the typhoon has passed, we have to check the damage to the grounds and make repairs, which is a hardship, unique to this region. He and his team are unsung heros who support the resort from behind the scenes. One of his fondest memories from when Nakasone first joined the company is supporting the tree-planting ceremony by Hiroko Yakushimaru, who starred in the 1984 hit Japanese movie "Main Theme," which was filmed at the resort.
