📢 TWO WEEKS NOTICE 📢 The American job market has experienced the most significant job loss numbers in over 50 years. 38 million workers quit their jobs in 2021. Many refer to it as the “Great Resignation”… but we prefer the term, the Great Re-Evaluation – a time for workers to re-evaluate what they want for themselves, and their careers. It’s also a time for employers to re-evaluate their policies, and make changes to keep top talent! We asked our community to share their Great Re-Evaluation stories. Stories are anonymous. ➡️ Why did you decide to quit your job? Too many reasons but let me sum it up here: Between an inhumane workload and zero recognition, I was hurtling toward burnout. Not to mention, I wasn’t learning anything new that would benefit the future of my career in any way. My boss would constantly ask for reworks and brag about how he needed to fix everything because his team wasn't capable…putting us down publicly creating a psychologically unsafe environment. My company was the perfect example of what a truly toxic environment can do to people: two people were on leave due to psychiatric reasons and the company experienced almost 100% turnover within just one year. They started to find it difficult to find new hires because in a small city, the word was already out about the culture.   ➡️ What was the last straw that made you decide it was time to move on? When I finally recognized that I was taking Xanax daily so that I could sleep, because of all the work pressure.   ➡️ How did you quit?  I tried to make it amicable (after all, you never know who you’ll run into in the future), but the company treated me terribly. They trash talked the company I was leaving for and told me I’d regret leaving. I tried to negotiate a shorter notice period, especially as I had months of uncompensated overtime hours, but was always met with “no.” And they didn’t stop there – they put me down telling me “we thought we were selecting a capable person for this position."   ➡️ How did your boss respond to your resignation? He offered me a raise and a retention bonus. But I wasn't leaving because of the money, so it was very easy to reject it.   ➡️ Was there anything your company could have done to retain you? A little recognition goes a long way. Had they had cared even a little about employee boundaries or had my boss recognized my efforts at all, perhaps I would have stayed.

When will companies get it? Treat people like people and not a means to an end and they may just stick around. It’s not complicated! 🤦🏻♀️ #employeeadvocacy #empathymatters
