Mark your calendars because Friday, Feb. 9, Mochiko Mochi Pizza in Palo Alto will be giving away free slices of mochi pizza from 4-6 p.m. while supplies last.

The giveaway is in celebration of the grand opening of Mochiko’s second location as well as National Pizza Day. Located within the Sushirrito on University Avenue, the mochi pizza spot had its soft opening Jan. 20 and has been operating on limited hours. The first location of Mochiko opened in Burlingame in 2023 and was created by Peter Yen and Ty Mahler, the co-founders of Sushirrito, a fast-casual sushi concept with locations in San Francisco, Redwood City, Palo Alto and in Local Kitchens across the Bay Area.

Mochiko’s pizza crust is gluten- and dairy-free, made from rice flour to create a crispy outside and chewy inside. While Mochiko offers two sizes of pizzas in Burlingame, Palo Alto will only offer the large pizza, which is an 18-x-4-inch pizza cut into six pieces that serves two to three adults.

A new mochi pizza flavor will be introduced to the menu for the Palo Alto grand opening: soy braised beef mochi pizza. Other pizza flavors include chicken curry, which includes fried chicken karaage, mozzarella, corn, jalapeno, Japanese curry and cilantro ($18) and spicy pork, which includes spicy minced pork, mozzarella, spinach and sansho pepper cream sauce ($18). Gluten-free options include pepperoni, which features pepperoni, mozzarella, tomato jam and garlic chives ($18) and cheese, which features mozzarella, tomato jam and fresh garlic chives ($16).
