Just another artist trying to make the work I want to really be making. Comics, queer fanbooks, rat prints, publishing the work of talented artists. Still figuring out the payment tiers. Anything helps.I got into this business through my fanwork and my queer work, and at the time I was ecstatic to find a way to use my artistic and writing skills for a career. I’ve written and/or boarded for Adventure Time, Tig N’ Seek, She-Ra and others. My comic, Gawain’s GF and the Green Knight, appears on The Beat’s Top 100 Comics of the Decade.Now, the commercial work has run dry, I’ve faced a major family death, I’m transitioning, new family members have come and gone. I’m reevaluating what I want to be doing with my life. I’m eternally grateful for all the people who have supported me through my career. But I found that through all this, the community that was always there for me was the queer fanworks community. Though I’d disappeared from the internet a few times, people in this community still remembered me, welcomed and supported my work, my voice, my transition.I’ve found that through my career, I had been attempting to fit a square peg in a round hole. My work has always been too violent, too messy, unprofessional, and perpetually I felt like a child in an adult’s game. There are artists who work well with others and stay consistent and can show up every single day and work unpaid overtime for the purpose of the greater work. I’ve tried endlessly to pry myself open to fit into that mould. To limited success.I’d like to give this a shot. I’d like to give ME a shot. I’ve found the only person who will take my work seriously is myself. And I hope I can share some of this journey with you and create some beautiful work that you and I will both enjoy.
