PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Two high school sophomores on Long Island have started a "Pay It Forward" program in Port Washington.

Twins Kate and Alec Goodman tell WCBS 880's Sophia Hall that during their holiday break they came up with a simple concept that can make a big difference to someone in need.

The duo teamed up with Carlo's Pizza to launch a program where customers can come in and donate $3 to buy a slice for the next person in need.

Those who participate put up a Post-it Note with a positive message on a board at the pizzeria and anyone who is in need of a slice can take a note, turn it it and get one.

"Some of the Post-its can be anything between 'Port Strong,' talking about a community strong together, or 'Be kind,' or 'Things will get better,' or 'Love each other,'" Alec said.

The twins started out the program by donating $500.

Kate is hopeful they can team up with other businesses.

"Right now we just started with Carlo's Pizza but in the future we can start it with other businesses to help out the community and also to bring the community together," Kate said. "I think it'll really help the community, something to make people feel good."
