TTP El Paso Welcomes New Physician with World-Class Experience Caring for COVID-19 Patients

Dr. Abhinav Vulisha brings international experience to our Borderplex

Abhinav Vulisha, M.D.

Our Borderplex community has a new board-certified internal medicine physician who brings worldwide experience helping underserved communities. Abhinav Vulisha, M.D., will see patients at our Alberta clinic, 4801 Alberta, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso. . He has also joined Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso as an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.

As an internal medicine specialist, Dr. Vulisha brings world-class patient care and knowledge to Borderplex families, allowing them to find the best treatment here at home.

Dr. Vulisha previously served patients at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, where he was the internal medicine chief resident from July 2022 until June 2023. He mentored and supervised residents, interns, and medical students, while also serving as a liaison between residents and administration.

During the pandemic, Dr. Vulisha managed care for COVID-19 patients, especially those in the intensive care unit. He served on the infectious disease team that evaluated COVID-19 throughout the pandemic. He also taught evidence-based medical procedures to students and interns while supervising and managing patient care, from admission to discharge.

From 2018 to 2019, he was the sole assistant divisional medical officer at Sub-Divisional Railway Hospital in Daund, India. As the only physician there, he led a team of 50 medical practitioners, including nurses, pharmacists, health inspectors and health attendants.

“I established and operated health camps in rural India, where we cared for an underserved population,” said Dr. Vulisha. “We identified those who were at risk for preventable diseases, including vitamin deficiency, fluorosis (a debilitating skeletal disease), and malnutrition. We also conducted trainings and workshops, such as health education programs, and blood donation drives in communities across India.”

Now in El Paso, Dr. Vulisha is interested in doing more research. His previous research focused on prevention and screenings for various diseases. He hopes his future research will improve the quality of life for his patients.

“By identifying diseases early, we can decrease mortality and improve the quality of health care we provide to our patients,” Dr. Vulisha said. “I’d also like to identify ways to improve the lives of both insured and uninsured patients in an efficient and affordable manner.”

Dr. Vulisha is looking forward to serving as a mentor to the next generation of internal medicine specialists. His goal is to teach them how to treat their patients and communicate with their families while establishing a sense of trust.

“This is exactly what I want in my life: to practice medicine and serve in a community where I’m needed, while teaching and mentoring future physicians,” Dr. Vulisha said.
