Embracing Hearts: Our Sacred Heart Heritage

Sister Sharon Karam, RSCJ is a Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ). She has vast knowledge and experience both in the classroom and as an educational administrator having served in six different Sacred Heart Network schools throughout her career. She previously served on the RSCJ Provincial Team and on the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Formation to Mission Committee. Sr. Karam is highly sought after as a lecturer and leads many retreats for fellow RSCJ, faculty, and students from across the Sacred Heart Network. Academic credentials include degrees from Maryville University, Washington University, Tulane University, and Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.  Sr. Karam  previously served four terms on the Regis Board of Directors.  

Sister Lynne Lieux, RSCJ has been a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart since 1980. After receiving her BS in Mathematics from Maryville University, she spent her first year in the Society at Villa Duchesne teaching math and physics. She received her MA in Physics from Washington University and her doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans. The focus of her research was sustaining educational change, specifically on the capacity of educators, individually and collectively, to embrace educational change. Sr. Lieux has spent most of her adult life working in Sacred Heart schools as a teacher, dean of students, upper school head and head of school. She has served as a trustee of several Sacred Heart schools and of Maryville University. She is on the Board of Trustees of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, MI and the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, LA. Sr. Lieux is currently a member of the Provincial Team of the Society of the Sacred Heart, United States – Canada Province.

Sr. Lieux has been keenly interested in the use of technology to enhance the educational experience. She was responsible for implementing one of the first one-to-one computing programs in the United States. In the past year, she has spent time training others to use Zoom, helping others develop tools and strategies for teaching online, and using design thinking with middle and high school students in developing projects addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Deeply committed to issues of justice and equity, Sr. Lieux spent a week in each summer in Nicaragua for 13 years where she and her students worked on providing homes, schools, drinking water, and clean sanitation. She also enjoys outdoor activities, including golf, fly-fishing, and cycling.

Sr. Lieux is serving her first term on the Regis Board of Directors.
 

Donna Collins, RSCJ is originally from Brisbane, Australia.  After years of teaching at both the elementary and secondary level, she served as principal of Villa Duchesne in St. Louis and Josephinum Academy in Chicago. She has served internationally as the coordinator of the Association of Sacred Heart Schools in Australia and New Zealand. ln Rome, she served as secretary general of the Society of the Sacred Heart and as a member of the Sophia Commission, a group whose mandate was the integration of education and justice, peace and integrity of creation at the international level. She has served on boards of trustees for Schools of the Sacred Heart and Josephinum Academy, both in Chicago. Sister Collins earned a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in educational administration from Boston College. Her teaching credentials are from Griffith University, Queensland, Australia. Sr. Collins served on the previous Provincial Team. From September through December 2022 she will be working at the Sacred Heart School in Sapporo, Japan.

Sr. Collins is serving her first term on the Regis Board of Directors.

Steven R. Turner, Jr. is the Head of School at The Regis School of the Sacred Heart. Steven has over 20 years of experience as an educator and school administrator.   He received his undergraduate degrees in classical languages and classical studies summa cum laude from Duke University.  He has a master's degree in Latin from the University of Georgia and a master's degree in educational leadership, management, and policy from Seton Hall University. Additionally, he completed the prestigious Fellowship for Aspiring Heads sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools and worked towards an executive certificate in nonprofit management at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University. Steven is a current parent to three Regis students.
