Danny Mac’s next role is in On the Town, Leonard Bernstein’s joyous musical set in 1940s New York. There is only one question to ask, really. Is there a samba? “Never!” Mac laughs, on a break from rehearsals. “Well, we’re not on Act II yet, so maybe?”

Last autumn, the former soap actor spiced up everybody’s Saturday night with two minutes of the Brazilian dance on Strictly. It became his calling card as he powered his way to the season finale. (He was runner-up to Ore Oduba.)
