“Education with a Higher Purpose” is in Jennings County!

Columbus Christian School has partnered with First Baptist Church of North Vernon to begin classes for students in grades  K-6th. in August 2024, 7th grade will be offered at CCSNV, too!

Columbus Christian School has been educating students for over 45 years and is an inter-denominational private school. CCS’s desire is to come alongside parents through Christ-centered academics, athletic excellence, and artistic worship to help grow their children's God-given gifts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Columbus Christian School is an Indiana Department of Education Freeway Accredited school.  Our North Vernon satellite campus offers Preschool - 6th grade.  This accreditation requires us to follow the IDOE Academic Standards and take all State Assessments.  CCS is an interdenominational school that focuses on teaching the Bible and God’s Word as truth.  East Columbus Christian Church is the main partner of CCS and has supported CCS as one of its ministries for more than 45 years.  First Baptist Church is our partner at our North Vernon location.  The three entities, FBC, CCS and ECCC, operate separately with their own Boards of Directors.  

GENERAL

  • What are the school hours and the pick-up/drop-off process?

    • Elementary 8:00a.m.-3:00p.m.

    • All Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30a.m. 

  • What Curriculum does Columbus Christian School use?

CCS uses a curriculum that meets the Indiana Academic Standards and integrates a Biblical Worldview.

Current publishers include but are not limited to: BJU Press & Abeka

  • Average Class size     

    • Current average class size is 16 students.  Class sizes may fluctuate based on grade level and student need.

  • Is there a school lunch program?

    • Hot lunch available for purchase. Additional offerings for snacks and breakfast are offered. 

    • Orders for the week are placed via a lunch order form. 

    • CCS does not participate in the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program.

  • Does Columbus Christian have a dress code policy?

    • Yes. CCS students are required to adhere to three main principles when they are at school or attending school functions. These are modesty, appropriateness and neatness. These guidelines are in the student handbook and are also downloadable from the school website.

    • Students not adhering to the dress code guidelines as directed by the school will be asked to change before returning to school. 

VOLUNTEERING

  • What are family service hours?

    • Each family is required to have 20 volunteer service hours. This can be easily accomplished by being an active part of your student’s educational experience. Chaperoning field trips, volunteering at sporting or school events, helping teachers, providing clerical support from home and being part of Parent Teacher Fellowship. 

  • Are volunteers required to have a background check?

    • Yes. In order to help in the classroom or attend field trips, a background check is required and must be completed every year. Forms are available in the school office.

STUDENT LIFE

  • What extracurricular activities are available and how does my child get involved?

Sports and extracurricular activities are based on student interest and have included the following at the Columbus Campus:

  • Elementary – Cheerleading, Basketball, Volleyball, Lego Robotics, Choir

  • Middle School/High School – Cheerleading, Basketball, Volleyball, Golf, Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Fishing, Choir, Chapel Worship Team, Technicians and Drama 

COMMUNICATION

  • If I have a concern about something, who do I talk to?

    • Both in administration and student instruction, CCS desires to follow the example set by Christ in Matthew 18. Parents, students and staff are encouraged to first go to the source of the issue. Many times problems can be solved without involving persons outside the immediate issue. If the issue remains, it may be respectfully brought to school leadership by arranging an appointment through the school office.

  • How is communication handled at the school?

FINANCIAL

  • What financial aid is available for families?

    • CCS is part of the Indiana School Choice Voucher and SGO scholarship programs. These programs are available based on income and offer a percentage of tuition coverage to qualified families.   • What do the class fees go toward?

    • Class fees vary by student age but generally go toward special student programs, field trips or activities, classroom supplies, snacks, etc.

    • The class fees are forecasted estimates based on previous years and planned activities. There may be unique/special opportunities added throughout the year, which would require additional funds.
