Marrying the beauty of art with music, composer Richard Laurence, better known as Gifts From Crows has released a masterful music video, which carries the spine-tingling percussion of his single “The Empty Mirror” onto the screen with perfect transparency. With a breathtaking photograph taken by Helena Whitten as his muse, the artist transfigures the mysterious image into a layered craft of wistful tones and sporadic cello articulations. Throughout the track, the melody constantly changes structure, playing with the key and pace in every breath. Shot in the same house in Devon from which the photograph was captured, the visual is an artwork of its own.

With Kristine Berget stepping into the skin of the featured figure, the contemporary choreography works seamlessly with the neoclassical music, depicting its ambient narrative through movement and melody alone. The fluidity of the dancers body contrasts the rigid footage, evoking for its audience the torrid nature of remembering those who have been and gone before us.

“The Empty Mirror” is the artists second single from the upcoming album, Stories in Slow Light. The album will be Richard’s first collaboration with photographer Helena Whitten, and will showcase 12 pieces in total. The full album will be available to access from the 25th of February.
