The Pony - East Cape Strip Club

This club is located just across the Mississippi River from Cape Girardeau, MO. Southern Illinois (especially around Cairo) is an economically depressed area so one shouldn't expect much in the way of anything great. Having said that, The Pony club is a pleasant surprise. It is not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it is still a nice cool place to relax on a hot day and enjoy a drink or two.

The inside of the club almost looks like an old-time brothel at first with antique mirrors hanging on the red walls. When you first walk in the bar area is directly ahead with a row of video poker machines to the left. To the right is the seating area with a small stage tucked away in a corner with a horse statue and an alien against the mirrored wall. Supposedly this place sees a lot of action late at night when the college crowd from SEMO packs the place until the wee hours of the morning. But at the times I have been in the late afternoon/early evening, the place has been very quiet with very few customers (mainly a few locals sitting at the bar enjoying their drinks). There are also just a few girls working during this time (although they hardly do any dancing). The girls are not overly gorgeous, but still pretty to look at and provide some nice conversation. The drink prices are also very reasonable and smoking is allowed.

My only other experience with nightclubs is in Virginia so my review is somewhat based on comparison to the ones out there. The laws in Illinois are somewhat less strict and the girls are a bit more loose (for lack of a better term). The private dance prices also seem to be a bit cheaper. I can't say The Pony is the nicest club I've been into but I can't say that it's bad either. In other words, it's A-OK in my book.
