Our top 3 craft beer recommendations for July 2020 - Bear'n'Stein - Cantillon - Nerdbrewing

It is time for Zurich Beer Tour's Top 3 beers of the month, July edition. Simona decided to feature a style of beer we didn't have until this day for her pick, a Belgian #witbier. And for the first time in this series, Sandro has not picked an IPA this month. On his travels to Vienna he came across a fantastic and rare #lambic that had to be mentioned in this blog. For our common pick, we decided to feature a very nicely flavored #pastrystout from Sweden. Here we go!

Simona's pick: Bear'n'Stein - One Way Or Another

The Beer:

Simona's pick for this month is a super tasty beer brewed in Zurich and if you are joining our tour soon, there is a chance that you can try this tasty brew. We're talking about Bear'n'Stein's One Way Or Another, an awesome Belgian style witbier brewed and served at the fantastic Bierlab. This Wit has a very full body. Perfectly brewed, this beer's flavors are true to style, banana, hints of clove and orange.

The Brewery:

Bear'n'Stein is a the brewery behind the only Brewpub in Zurich, Bierlab. The Pub is one of the best places in Zurich to have a delicious beer and if you are lucky enough, you can also watch them brew while having your beer because their brewery is visible from the seating area. If you're interested in finding out more about this place, you can book your Zurich Beer Tour here learn more.

Our food pairing recommendation:

Mild goat cheese

Sandro's pick: Brasserie Cantillon - Divin Lambic

The Beer:

Sandro is featuring a beer he had at Ammutsøn Bar in Vienna. Divin lambic beer was brewed by the very famous Brasserie Cantillon based in Anderlecht, Brussels, Belgium. It's a blend of two barrels of two-year old lambic matured over Grenache Noir #grapes. Divin lambic contains 300/g of grapes per liter and it has 6.5% ABV. Between 700 and 900 bottles were produced. The Aromas of this beer are funky, grapes, red #wine, wood and some berry notes. So if you know someone who says he doesn't like beer but loves wine, make an experiment and give him this beer, then check their reaction.

The Brewery:

Cantillon is a traditional lambic brewery from Brussels, founded in 1900 by Paul Cantillon and his wife Marie Troch. Since its foundation the only major change was the shift to #organic ingredients only in 1999, everything else is absolutely the same as it was 120 years ago. Some Cantillon beers are really rare and certain beer lovers would pay a fortune for special bottles.

Our food pairing recommendation:

Mussels steamed in Geuze beer

Zurich Beer Tour's pick: Nerdbrewing - Break Imperial Apple Pie Stout

The Beer:

As usual, we had to feature a high ABV dark beer. Break Imperial Stout by Nerdbrewing was brewed with #apples, #cinnamon and #vanilla. What a weird beer you think? It was absolutely fantastic and tasted exactly like an apple pie, going perfect with the dark chocolate and cocoa aromas from the dark malts.

The Brewery:

Nerdbrewing from Malmö, Sweden was founded as a commercial gypsy brewery in 2015 by Hannes Gruber and Karin Carlsson. The name of the brewery hints at Hannes' background in computer #science and software development. Nerdbrewing also brought the concept of open source from the computer to the brewery, that means that all their beer recipes are free for any home brewer to try out.

Our food pairing recommendation:

You guessed it: Apple Pie. Or if you want to be more adventurous try a cinnamon bun.

These are our three beers. Which ones were your favorite brews in July? Tell us in the comments!
