The University of Edinburgh’s Socratic Society (SocSoc) is a student-led organisation that runs biweekly question-based discussions on relevant cultural and social topics. SocSoc is a non-academic, non-political, non-debate society which initiates approachable, cooperative discourse open to all intellectual backgrounds.
Our roundtable Socratic seminar framework fosters the deliberation of open-ended questions regarding current topics and events. SocSoc encourages divergent thinking through shared dialogue which creates an openness to being wrong and an openness to change.
Scio me nihil scire ("I know that I know nothing") is our motto and a purported quote from Socrates. This saying reflects SocSoc's core purpose: to examine our thought processes and challenge our beliefs through cooperative questioning.
