Why this petition matters

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) plays a critical role in maintaining global peace and security by adjudicating disputes between states.

South Africa is alleging that Israel’s war on Gaza constitutes genocide, and this case is currently under consideration at the ICJ in the Hague, Netherlands. However, this significant trial would benefit from including eye witnesses from Gaza that have both been living through 103 days of genocide and ethnic cleansing while documenting it. These journalists are the main sources of information about the situation in Gaza, resulting in the huge marches in many countries across the world supporting Palestine.

After October 7, 2023 Israel has deprived Gaza for most basic of needs such as food, water, and electricity. Moreover, Israel has blocked humanitarian and medical aid, and international media from entering Gaza. The latter resulted in the increased important role the journalists from Gaza had to take. In addition to documenting the genocidal war, they have first-hand experience from Gaza across the past more than 100 days. They are eye-witnesses that can further elaborate and deepen South Africas' accusations against Israels ongoing genocide in Gaza. Also, the journalists from Gaza have been targeted and a vast number of journalists have been killed. Therefore, we urge the ICJ to protect the journalists in Gaza.

The presence of media can ensure that justice is not only done but also seen to be done. It provides an opportunity for the public to understand the situation and make their own judgments based on the information presented.

In the face of the atrocities committed by the Israeli IDF soldiers in Gaza and to help determine whether it is a genocidal act or not, it is utterly important to listen and examine all evidences. Hence, we urge ICJ to invite the three journalists from Gaza, Motaz Azaiza, Bisan Owda and Wael Al Dahdouh into the courtroom to testify during this crucial case against Israel.

Motaz Azaiza is an employee of Unrwa, he is a photojournalist from Deir al Balah in Gaza. Bisan Owda is a Palestinian filmmaker and has worked with the United Nations on gender equality, and with the European Union on climate change. Wael Hamdan Al-Dahdouh is a well-known journalist and the bureau chief of Al Jazeera in Gaza City. These are important voices covering the war in Gaza since October 7, 2023. We believe, this step will enhance transparency and uphold democratic values globally.

Please sign this petition if you believe in justice being served transparently and want Motaz Azaiza, Bisan Owda and Wael Al Dahdouh to witness in this important case at ICJ, and require protection of the three and other journalists in Palestine.

Thank you for standing up for humanity!
