90Two Poetry Book Released!
90 TWO IS FIRST BOOK OF DIAVERSE, A NEW STYLE OF POETRY CREATED BY AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER, DASTAN KHALILI
Book Combines Ninety of Khalili’s Two Line Stanza Poems with Artwork and Imagery
DiaVerse, a new style of poetry where the only rule is all stanzas must have a maximum of two words, is featured in 90 Two, the first book of poetry by award winning screenwriter and director Dastan Khalili, whose most recent film, The Way now available on demand, has received fifty awards worldwide. Published by the Dorrance Publishing Company, 90 Two contains ninety of Khalili's DiaVerse poems. Combining Khalili’s poetic verses with his digital artwork and imagery, each conveying a sensation of inspiration that comes to life with each poem, the book is available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon, among other outlets.
DiaVerse, dia meaning "two" and verse for the poetic rhyme, breathes new life into poetry according to Khailili. The restraint of DiaVerse forces poets to use the purest forms of expression. Says Khalili, “DiaVerse poetry serves two simple purposes: the first is to challenge the writer to find the simplest way to express the experience; the second is to make writing poetry accessible to anyone, anytime, anywhere. If you can put two words together you can now write DiaVerse poetry. It’s is poetry for all.”
Born in Iran, Dastan Khalili began his love of poetry as a child when his father would have him memorize all the Persian master poets in the original language of Farsi, Rumi, Hafez, and Saadi. Moving to the US with his family in 1981, he began writing his own poetry at the age of ten, two of which were published in the American Anthology of Poetry. Poetry has permeated his life, both in writing it and in study. After years of studying the great poets of our past and present, Khalili felt he had no unique voice to offer until he created DiaVerse in 2016. He spent the past five years writing poetry that explored themes from all walks of life …joy, levity, pain, spirit, love, loss and passion. Says Khalili, “I am thrilled to share my poems with the world with 90 Two and hope to inspire others to create poetry in the DiaVerse format.”
Khalili began his filmmaking career in 1995 after graduating with a BA from the Pomona University Theater Academy. His first feature film, which he directed, wrote and starred in, a psychological thriller, Insomnia Manica, premiered in 2005 to stellar reviews. Since then, he has directed nine feature films. Khalili balances his filmmaking and writing career with his charitable work advocating for natural building as President of the renowned California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture (CalEarth.)
