ROLE STATEMENT

The Telehealth Nursing Program operates as part of a suite of Telehealth Support Programs offered by EDV including Telehealth Counselling, Hub, Online Support Groups and Carer Coaching Program.

Telehealth Nursing is a central point of contact to help people experiencing an eating disorder or their support people. The nurse enables service users to understand the physical health impacts of their or their loved ones eating disorder, access services, locate specialized eating disorder health professionals, provide health information and help people work towards recovery. The Telehealth Nurse actively engages individuals, carers/ supports and health professionals to establish realistic pathways of care that account for individual presentations and contextual situations.

The Telehealth Nursing Program works in close partnership with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that those involved in supporting or identifying someone at risk of an eating disorder presentations have the resources and knowledge to adequately support individuals experiencing an eating disorder. NOTE: This role is not to give treatment advice. The primary role is to develop care plans, provide education, support, navigation and connection to services. For treatment related questions the nurse will work collaboratively with the client and / or family to develop a list of questions to take back to their treating team.

EDV has a commitment to supporting the Lived Experience Workforce through the EDV Lived Experience Framework. Candidates who have lived experience of an eating disorder or who have lived experience of caring for a person with an eating disorder must align with the definitions as detailed in the attached Position Description.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Therapeutic Support and Service Navigation:

  • Support client and / or carer empowerment through health assessment, education and information provision.
  • Support clients and / or carers to proactively manage the impact of the eating disorder.
  • Using a holistic, trauma informed approach, assist clients and / or carers to navigate the healthcare system to access support and services appropriate to their situation.
  • Attend and actively engage in reflective practice, supervision, staff meetings, and other internal meetings; keep up to date with EDV news and sector developments.

Collaborative Care:

  • Provide consultation and support to professionals working with those impacted by an eating disorder
  • Work collaboratively with all available EDV services to ensure consistent, safe and effective care
  • Support stakeholder engagement and continuity of care with external services.
  • Support continuity of care with families following hospital admissions or discharge from intensive day programs.

Consultation and Education:

  • Work in close collaboration with the telehealth team and broader EDV services to ensure consistent, safe and effective care including consultation on medical presentations when required.
  • Liaise with multiple external stakeholders for collaborative continuity of care, including those in the eating disorder sector, mental health and allied health organisations.
  • Participate in opportunities to expand awareness and knowledge to key stakeholders including education and health workers.

Other:

  • Participate in data collection, health outcomes reporting, program evaluation and continuous improvement related to the Telehealth Nursing Program.
  • Attend staff meetings, and other internal meetings; keep up to date with EDV news and sector developments.
  • Other duties consistent with position as directed by the Manager, Telehealth Support Programs

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Current nursing registration with AHPRA

Professional Experience:

  • Competent understanding of the nature and purpose of eating disorders counselling and support services for clients and / or their families.
  • Ability to achieve or be working towards ANAZED credential status
  • Experience in a mental health and / or counselling setting.
  • Excellent time management, problem solving and organisational skills to be able to work in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality with all aspects of information in accordance with EDV and State and Federal regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills

Communication Skills:

  • High-level communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to build rapport and adapt approach according to the audience (clients, services, staff).

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and lived experience workforce.

Desirable:

  • Experience in providing nursing in a telehealth setting.

Employment conditions

  • Location: This position will be based at the EDV office on Level 2 of the Magpies Community Centre (corner Lulie and Abbot Streets, Abbotsford). 
  • Normal working hours will be between Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
  • Subject to satisfactory Working with Children Check, National Police Check and completion of Conflict-of-Interest Declaration. 
  • Probationary period will apply (4-months).
