Onboard Lürssen's latest: The 95m Madsummer

Created for an owner who isn’t afraid to stand out from the crowd, the 95-metre yacht Madsummer is a creative new addition to the world fleet. Having brought together the exterior designer Harrison Eidsgaard and German shipyard Lürssen for the first time, Madsummer was successfully delivered ahead of schedule in July 2019.Photo: Jeff BrownPhoto: Jeff BrownFor the interiors, Laura Sessa incorporated colours and textures in a stylish and contemporary way that is homely and personal – a creation that was heavily influenced by the long-standing relationship between the designer and the owner. "There is always a reminder of one deck to another throughout the yacht," comments Sessa, who also personally chose custom artwork for the owner.Photo: Jeff BrownPhoto: Jeff BrownWith a royal blue silk carpet and geometric elements, the main saloon is where guests can dine together on the custom table, designed to be an artwork in itself with layers of coloured lacquer scored off in circular patterns. Four identical doubles are located aft and two twins are forward, each with their own en-suite and custom colour scheme: The doubles are red, turquoise, beige and royal blue, and the twin staterooms are decorated in green and navy blue with lacquered sycamore wardrobe doors, silk carpets, lampshades, bed frames and hand-dyed mother of pearl and Calacatta marble in the bathrooms. Three additional guest suites are located on the upper deck. The double room is described as “nautical-meets-The Hamptons theme” with woven wool carpet, a dressing room and marble bathroom, whereas the two VIP cabins - one in blue and the other in burnt orange - boast wood accents laminated with bronze. The space is decorated with white tinted oak wall panelling finished with blue resin, blue silk carpet and accents of red and white. One port side bathroom designed for a female has a refrigerator for beauty creams and white quartzite flooring, whereas the starboard masculine bathroom boasts dark Travertine marble and brushed painted teak. The couple also has his-and-hers dressing rooms. As an experienced owner and after having also raced offshore powerboats, it was decided that the state-of-the-art bridge was to be located by the master suite to allow the owner to spend time in the bridge alongside his longstanding captain.Photo: Giorgio Baroni Photo: Giorgio BaroniPhoto: Giorgio BaroniPhoto: Giorgio Baroni“The owner’s brief was demanding, however, we believe our engineering expertise has surpassed his wishes to own a yacht that many years from now will be timeless and yet still ahead of its time. Our thanks go, of course, to good design and communications with the designers of the exterior, Harrison Eidsgaard and Laura Sessa respectively for the interior as well as to Moran Yacht & Ship and the owner's captain who supervised the build on behalf of the owner,” Peter Lürssen explains.Photo: Giorgio BaroniPhoto: Giorgio BaroniPhoto: Giorgio BaroniThe cinema room overlooking the bow is surrounded by two-by-three-metre windows and is accessible from the foredeck, where guests can relax on the built-in sofa and sunpad and be protected from the elements by the height of the bow. In the upper deck saloon, a bar, grand piano and a seating area are the main focal points and create a central guest space nearby the informal exterior dining space, fire pit and Teppanyaki bar.Photo: Giorgio BaroniPhoto: Giorgio BaroniThe sundeck is home to a gym, bar, sunpad area, Jacuzzi under the mast and a large exterior space used to store a Husky seaplane which can double as a party space. Guests can also enjoy the 9-metre pool and Jacuzzi on the main deck aft – a space that can serve as a formal dining area with easy access into the interior and the lower deck spa, massage room, Hammam and sun shower. A large foldout balcony on the starboard side can be used for guests arriving by tender - either the 11-metre limo tender, 10-metre rib or rescue tender - which can then be stored in one of the two tender garages forward and aft. The garages also house a Ski Nautique, five PWCs, a range of skis and boards and a large selection of dive equipment. Her range of up to 6,000 nautical miles at 12 knots and a top speed of 17 knots is due to her twin MTU 16V4000M63 IMO compliant diesel engines. Together with 29 crew, Madsummer is set to travel around the world trip and cruise the Pacific in between being chartered at €1,400,000 per week.
