Onboard: The customisable 30m Swan 98 sailing yacht from Nautor's Swan

Known best for their understated Nordic style, Nautor’s Swan has been producing sailing yachts at their Finland-based facilities for over half a century. Coming a long way from the Swan 36, the first Swan sailing yacht ever produced, Nautor’s Swan offers a more in-depth look at the latest vessel to exit the shed doors of their facility in Pietarsaari: the 30-metre Swan 98. Owners are offered the choice of two interior layouts that feature the owner’s stateroom located either forward or aft, with the addition of a double and two twin en-suite staterooms. Especially if owners take advantage of the option to customise the telescopic keel, which, together with the standard twin rudders, can reduce the draught from 4.9 metres to 3.2 metres, creating new opportunities to explore busy harbours and remote locations without compromising windward performance.Swan 98 Photo: Nautor's SwanInside, the superyacht can be decorated to the design work of Genovese-based architect, Misa Poggi, who has created three variations for the interior. Intended for those who are hoping to add their own touches to the decor, the Timeless Classical White option includes linen, cotton, leather and pale durmast wood in neutral colours to act as a blank canvas for any additional customisations. The in-house team have created a Nordic style that brings together oak and walnut floorboards complemented by earthy leather and performance fabrics. Swan 98 interior optionsPhoto: Nautor's SwanAs with the interior, there are several areas on deck that offer opportunities for multi-purpose use. Acting as both a space for sail handling and for resting on still waters, the deck allows for guests onboard to easily adapt the space to suit ongoing weather and activities. The spacious cockpit provides an ideal location to dine and enjoy sea views and is sheltered by a flush stored sprayhood. This area can also be converted from a lounge space with deck sofas to an elegant dining area, shaded by an optional bimini which is also stored flush in the coachroof. Aft of the cockpit is a spacious deck which can act as a lounging space when at anchor and a line-handling space whilst sailing. Swan 98 interior optionsPhoto: Nautor's Swan

As one of five crew members, the skipper can manage all the sail handling with push-button sailing from either of the twin helm positions. The crew can also launch and retrieve the anchor by means of a hydraulic folding arm and make use of the forward sail locker and full-beam aft lazarette. The fundamental principles are exactitude and method, as well as the unchanging habit of involving craftsmanship, and the use of real, natural and traditional materials. All this contributes to creating aesthetic value which goes beyond fashion and trends, interpreting a client’s dreams and requirements and meeting their need for personalisation.”Nautor Swan 98 exterior designPhoto: Nautor's SwanThe 100 GT superyacht has a hull and deck built from epoxy pre-preg carbon fibre, with the interior and exterior skins supported by a core of M-grade Corecell foam. Since the hull carries nearly all of her beam right aft, the Swan 98 delivers form stability when heeled which helps to provide a generous amount of space in the staterooms below. The transom folds down hydraulically to reveal a teak-decked swim platform and a garage for a 4-metre tender.

Every Swan 98 is powered by a 306 HP Cummins main engine housed in the full-beam engine room located below the raised saloon. For those wishing to use their Swan 98 to compete out on the race course, Nautor’s Swan has devised a comprehensive racing package that includes a square-top mainsail with running backstays and double-length bowsprit for fast reaching with powerful masthead gennakers.
