TURKEY EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
Mercy Relief, Singapore's leading independent disaster relief agency, is responding to the massive earthquake that hit Turkey.
One of the strongest earthquakes to hit the country's south east region in twenty years shook residents from their sleep in the early hours of Monday 6 February, sending tremors as far away as Lebanon and Israel. To date, death toll is at least 5,894 people and increasing rapidly, with more than 15,800 injured. Rescuers are racing against time to pull survivors from the rubble in near freezing winter conditions. The epicenter of the 7.8-magnitude quake was 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi, in Turkey's Gaziantep province, at a depth of 24.1 kilometers (14.9 miles).Β
Mercy Relief's emergency relief mission visited Turkiye in February to distribute emergency relief assistance through provision of hot meals, blankets, winter clothing to the worst affected and most vulnerable families. Follow up missions are being planned for this year.
